There are many quotations I could have chosen to dissect. The one that I think is most important comes up in the earliest part of Macbeth. The quotation I chose the witches say and it goes like this "Foul is Fair and Fair is Foul, Hover through the fog and filthy air" Act 1, Scene 1, Line 12-13 pg. 7.
"Foul" means bad, where as "Fair" means good. Bad is good and good is bad. This line represents deception, and that things never seem how they really are. For example, none of Lords so far really know that Macbeth killed King Duncan, the audience thought Banqou was Macbeth's friend until he killed him.
There are many lines, quotes and behavior of characters that support my conclusion. Another example of representation of deception would be Lady Macbeth talking to Macbeth saying "Your hand, your tongue. Look like th' innocent flower. But be the serpent under it." Act 1, scene 6, line 76-78 pg. 35
Lady Macbeth is saying look innocent and hide the evil thoughts that are in your mind, a.k.a deception. In conclusion, the line "Foul is Fair and Fair is Foul, Hover through the fog and filthy air" Act 1, Scene 1, Line 12-13 pg. 7 represents deception in the book and is present in Acts 1-3.
I am interested to see if deception will be present for the rest of the acts.
Hi Annie:
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice for quotations! I picked Foul is Fair and Fair is Foul as well! I can tell you worked hard on this analysis. Great job Annie.
